In conjunction with the World Habitat Day on 3 October 2011, SMART Tunnel has received Habitat Scroll of Honour Award 2011. This is yet, another international award in recognition and appreciation for its proven effectiveness which was held in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
SMART Tunnel Chief Operating Officer, Mohd Fuad Kamal Ariffin has received the most prestigious award for Malaysia from the United Nations Organisation in recognition of work carried out in the field of human settlements development. The aim of the award is to honour individuals and institutions instrumental in improving the living conditions in urban centres around the world.
Each year the World Habitat Day will be celebrated on the first Monday in October in which they bring to the world's attention a matter of great concern in our rapidly urbanizing world. As for this year, Dr. Joan Clos the United Nations Executive Director of UN-HABITAT said they pay attention at the impact of cities in creating climate change and in turn, the impact of climate disruption on cities and what action has been taken to address those issues.
The conference held over two days, managed to gather many representatives from around the world to participate and share information on matters raised. Mohd Fuad as the representative of Malaysia during his presentation also shares experience with other delegates on the operation of Smart Tunnel.
