SMART has been awarded the highly prestigious ‘IEM Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award for 2010’ by the Institute of Engineers, Malaysia, at the IEM 51st Annual Dinner held on 17 April at Sime Darby Convention Centre, Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. The award was presented to SMART by YB. Dato’ Seri Kong Cho Ha, Minister of Housing and Local Government, in recognition of outstanding achievement for the Construction and Design of SMART Tunnel. The Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel is the first dual function tunnel of its type, providing flood and traffic environmental improvements at a price less than two separate solutions. Being a World’s first, SMART has demonstrated innovation in the application of each component as well as their integration. The solutions had to satisfy the wet stormwater environment and the need for a dry as a fully serviced highway. Innovative solutions, whether in technology, construction techniques or products used were employed in order to successfully complete the entire project within the stipulated time frame of 4 and 1/2 years.
