3 & 4 March 2010
SMART management recently organized a 5S’s Training for their employees held at MCC on 3 & 4 March 2010. The training was separated into 2 parts, theory and practical. 5S’s stands for 5 Japanese words that start with letter ‘S’ namely Seiri (Sorting), Seiton (Organizing), Seiso (Cleaning), Seiketsu (Standardizing) and Shitsuke (Discipline). These are rough translations from the original Japanese terms referring to a process to optimize workplace organization. This activity is not just for the purpose of cleanliness but also to encourage a better working environment in SMART because with the 5S’s, employees will learn the fundamental concepts of the 5S’s that will improve quality and productivity. The training includes step-by-step guidelines for achieving the 5S’s as well as a roadmap to implement the 5S’s throughout the entire organization. Many examples of 5S success stories and pictures were shown throughout the one day training session.
