SMART was invited to participate in the Public Understanding of Science & Technology Symposium (PUSAT) organized by the Malaysian Scientific Association (MSA) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Merapok, Lawas, Limbang, Sarawak on 24th-25th October 2009. A total of over 500 students and 100 teachers from the rural schools of Sarawak, namely Sekolah Menengah Merapok, Sekolah Menengah Trusan, Sekolah Menengah Lawas and Sekolah Menengah Sundar attended the 2-day Symposium.
SMART General Manager, Mohd Fuad Kamal Ariffin who is one of the speakers in the symposium presented the overall operations and maintenance briefing of SMART Tunnel, the world’s first dual-purpose tunnel. Other topics presented in the symposium were herbal medicine, food crisis, renewable energy, biodiversity, nutrition, nanotechnology, dengue, stem cells, astronomy, etc. The Symposium was officially closed by the Chief Minister of Sarawak, YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. It was one of the major and successful events organized by MSA in line with its main objective to inspire the younger generation to take up science.
