The people of Gaza recently suffered greatly from the military intrusion by forces from its neigbouring country. The images from the printed and electronic media had given us an unforgettable impression of the suffering and losses to the resident of Gaza.
In response to a call made by the Minister of Work, YBhg Datuk Ir Mohd Zin Mohamed for Highway Concessionaires to assist in a Humanitarian Fund collection from its users, SMART started its effort on 19 January 2009.
A total of RM9,236.41 was raised from the SMART Highway users who were generous and concerned about the suffering by the resident of Gaza. Of the amount, RM4,000 was handed over to the Ministry of Works via Malaysian Highway Authority during a cheque-presentation ceremony for the Palastine Humanitarian Fund on 5 February 2009, in Kuala Lumpur recently.
SMART was still receiving donation from its users until 7 February 2009 and a cheque for RM5,236.41 was handed over to Berita Harian to be channeled to the NSTP Fund for Gaza.
We wish to thank all the SMART Highway users for their generosity and hope the amount collected will in a small way help to ease the suffering.
