The Asian Networking of Major Cities 21 (ANMC21) plenary meeting was hosted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall this year and was held at the Legend Hotel. In conjunction with the meeting, a cultural and exhibition was held at the Mid Valley Exhibition Center from 19 – 22 Nov 2008.
Among the major topic discussed during the meeting was the flood mitigation solution that Kuala Lumpur has adopted. As such, the SMART Tunnel was of the major interest for the participants. A paper on the project was presented by Jabatan Pengairan & Saliran Malaysia (JPS) during the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, the participant was taken to the exhibition center in Mid Valley Mall. Here, other than the other booths show casing the tourism of the participating countries, The SMART project booth was the main attraction. The Tunnel Boring Machine model was displayed and it was the focus of queries by the visitors.
On the following day, 30 of the participants were lucky enough to join a site visit to the SMART project. The delegates were first taken to the JPS Stormwater Control Center at Kg Berembang. There were given a briefing about the concept as well as how the tunnel works. From there, the delegates then proceed to the SMART Motorway Control Center. The delegates were shown a video on the Mode 3 Operations as well as the operation of the Control Room. Questions fielded by the delegates were entertained by Wan Azhar (PR Manager) and Mohd Noor (Toll Ops Manager). After tugging into a light refreshment prepared, the delegates ended their site visit by being given an escorted drive through the SMART Tunnel.
